VisionKey brings the latest in eye-controlled communication technology to enable users to utilize eye movements for complete computer access and for augmentative communication. It is lightweight and fully portable. VisionKey comes with a stand-alone, separate control unit with a display and a voice synthesizer; for person-to-person communication no computer is needed. A standard USB keyboard interface is provided for computer control and the unit can also be powered this way.

What is required from the user Requires: Good control in one eye, text-based skills to make selections, cognitive ability to understand and complete selection process. Can be used with vertical or horizontal scanning (eyes as switches) for users with limited eye control.
Can the system be operated entirely by the user without assistance once the system is setup and running? After a session is initiated with the help of an assistant, the user can independently recalibrate if necessary and also change other system settings such as fixation dwell capture time.

Methods A small photodetector array. A combination of corneal and retinal reflection.
Other features Head-mounted: a viewer in front of one eye mounted on a pair of standard frames eye is connected to a small control unit. A training aid application EyeSpy shows real-time eye position on the keychart.
Spatial resolution Keyboard has 49 positions. Of these, one of a subset of 16 can be selected.
Temporal resolution 50 Hz (sampling every 20 ms)
Tolerance to ambient light / sunlight Works well under varying light conditions. May require recalibration if the ambient light changes severely.
Tolerance to eye glasses and contact lenses Works well in most cases. Viewer is set to user prescription.
Accommodation to human eye variations (iris color, ethnic background) Works well in all cases (iris color or ethnic background has no effect).
Freedom of head movements Large movements (>20cm). There are no restrictions on head movement.

Setup and system requirements
Computer requirement(s) VisionKey operates with any PC or Mac supporting a USB interface. VisionKey also works stand-alone for person-to-person communicatino (no computer needed). It has an internal rechargeable battery and an integral charger.
Setup time If the glasses frame and viewer are correctly set, installation is immediate.

What is the eye tracker physical interface type? USB. It does not need any adaptation software. It can operate with any application that can be used with a standard keyboard.
Does the eye tracker require manufacturer's own dedicated software to operate, or can it be used with other suitable software? With any suitable software.
If the eye tracker can be used with other suitable software, will the manufacturer make the required control protocols available?
Does the manufacturer's own dedicated software have an API (programming interface) to allow control over the manufacturer's software and eye tracker by third party applications? No.
If the manufacturer's own dedicated software and eye tracker has an API, will the manufacturer make the required control protocols available?
Is a stream of gaze data (x, y, pupil size, blink etc) from the manufacturer's own dedicated software accessible to other third party software? No, cannot be accessed in real time by third party software.
